Marshall Middle School – Sports Field Reconstruction
This project will entail the removal of the existing playing and running surfaces, installation of sub-surface drainage, well draining soils, irrigation system, sports field grass seeding and new cinder track surface areas. Reconstruction of the track and sports field at Marshall Middle School will begin in June 2008. Construction will be complete by the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year. The new sports field turf will need time to grow and become adequately established; it should be ready for use at the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. This project is part of the Olympia School District Construction Bond that was passed in 2003.

Transportation Center – Power for Engine Block Heater
Transformers, power lines and electrical outlets will be installed at the Olympia School District Transportation Department in the summer of 2008. This electrical installation will allow all school buses to have the engine block heaters efficiently plugged into a power source. Power will be programmed to turn the block heaters on a few hours before buses leave for their routes, and will only function during freezing weather. The block heaters will permit the engines to easily start and shorten the engine warm up time, thus reducing the use of fuel. This project is part of the Olympia School District Construction Bond that was passed in 2003.

Three School Portable Relocation Project
Over the summer, four existing portable classrooms, currently located at the former John Rogers site, will be moved to various schools to meet expanding enrollment. The portables will be moved to Olympia High School, Hansen Elementary School and McKenny Elementary School. These temporary classrooms will be ready for use at the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year. This project will be funded by Impact and Mitigation fees collected by the Olympia School District.
