Notice from Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction
The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) has told the Olympia School District to communicate the following message:
“Each district must inform parents of English Language Learner (ELL) students participating in the STBIP and/or Title III language instruction educational program that the State did not notify district of their AMAO results for FY 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2005-06, as described in section 3122 of Title III.”
Explanation: “AMAO” stands for “Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives” and is part of the information that needs to be collected for the federal government under the No Child Left Behind Law. There are three objectives to be measured: (1) the percentage of English Language Learners making progress in learning English: (2) the percentage of students becoming proficient in English, and (3) the percentage of English Language Learners making adequate yearly progress in reading and math. For example, during the 2006-07 school year, 68% of English Language Learners in the Olympia School District made progress in learning English and 40 % achieved proficiency. The adequate yearly progress target was met.
