For Parents
Welcome to the Olympia School District Website resources page for parents. This page is intended to support parents in our district and provide connections to what is happening within our schools and our community. If you have something you’d like to see added, send the information to Rachelle Underwood and we’ll work to get it posted to this page.
Enrolling in School
Children must be five years old on or before August 31 to attend kindergarten and six years of age on or before August 31 to enter first grade. All new students are required to provide a birth certificate or other accepted proof of birthdate, as well as immunization records for registration.
School Attendance
Excused Absences: If your child is absent, call the school office before 9:00 a.m. to let them know the reason and when your child will be returning to school. Students are asked to bring a written note signed by parent/legal guardian upon their return.
Unexcused Absences: If you do not communicate with the school
about your child’s absence, their record will show an “unexcused
absence” for that day. Unexcused absences may affect the child’s
grade. Regular attendance is extremely important to your child’s
learning. Certain non-medical absences may be recorded as
“unexcused” even with a note from home.
Tardiness: Please make sure that your child arrives at school on
time every day. Students who are late to school must be signed in
by, or have a note from, a parent/legal guardian in order to be
admitted to class.
College Bound Scholarship
College Bound is designed to motivate and prepare students to pursue a college education. It is a four-year scholarship that will cover the cost of college tuition, fees, and books.
Custody Documentation
In cases involving court-ordered custody of children, schools must have legal documentation (parenting plan) of restrictions to ensure compliance with court orders.
Voter Registration
Anyone wishing to register to vote or to change their registration may obtain a mail-in application at any of our 18 schools or at the District office.
Before & After School Childcare
The District, in cooperation with the South Sound YMCA, offers before and after-school childcare at each of our eleven elementary schools. For more information, contact the YMCA at (360) 705-2642.
The Olympia School District also works in cooperation with the City of Olympia to provide after-school opportunities for students at each of our four middle schools.
