Developmental preschool seeks non-disabled peers
Kindergarten learning in the classroomOlympia School District's Developmental Preschool Program is seeking non-disabled peers for the 2019-20 classes that start this fall.

Developmental Preschool classrooms are primarily designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities. We invite non-disabled peers into classrooms to maximize the progress of students with disabilities. In turn, non-disabled peers are able to access affordable preschool from certificated teachers with a high level of classroom support.

The priority deadline for requests for non-disabled peer spaces is March 31, 2019. Requests will continue to be accepted for later openings after that deadline.

Tuition for non-disabled peer spaces is $210 per month, and $75 per month for low-income families. Low-income status is determined at the time of enrollment using federal guidelines for free and reduced-price lunch status. Some tuition-free spaces are reserved in each class for students who are at-risk for future school failure. “At-Risk” status is determined through the early childhood evaluation process.

If you are interested in having your child attend Olympia School District's Developmental Preschool Program, please contact our Early Learning Program at (360) 596-7539 or [email protected]. It would be helpful to provide the following: full student name, date of birth, gender, parent name, phone number, email address and home address. Additionally, please share whether you anticipate meeting low-income criteria (see link for guidelines) and whether you have concerns regarding your child's development.

Upon receiving this information, we will place your student's name on our waiting list for the 2019-20 school year. Whenever possible, students are placed at or close to their neighborhood elementary school. You will be notified with placement information or the need for additional screening during the second week of April (April 8-12, 2019). Information regarding a child’s position on the waiting list is not available until that time.

If you have concerns regarding your child's development, please reach out to us at the email address or phone number listed above. Olympia School District offers free Developmental Screenings for families who are concerned about their child's development.

Please see the OSD Early Childhood Program webpage for more information. Also, please feel free to reach out to us with additional questions at the phone number or email address listed above.
