Proposed Replacement Levy Projects

Among other things, the replacement levy would fund new and continued technology and safety initiatives, including:


Instructional Technology: $30,159,921

Computer Hardware: $1,532,400

  • Devices for teachers, librarians, administrators, and paraprofessionals

  • Transition from a four-year to a five-year replacement cycle

  • Library circulation computers

  • Maintenance of audio/visual equipment for common spaces and the Performing Arts Centers

Mobile/Portable Devices: $5,117,500

  • One-to-one devices for all students

  • Touchscreen with 8GB RAM

  • Replacement cycles: five years (grades K–4), four years (grades 5–12)

  • Replacement of classroom carts for grades K–5

  • One cart is provided for each K–5 classroom and all libraries

Classroom Display: $5,200,000

  • Six-year replacement cycle

  • Replacement of 575 panels with 86" displays

  • Upgrades to classroom audio systems

  • Teacher microphones equipped with integrated panic buttons

Adaptive Technology: $200,000

  • Assistive technology for Special Services to support individual student needs

Certificated Technology Stipend: $17,010,021

  • 31-hour stipend per OEA contract

Technology Professional Development: $1,100,000

  • Six hours of self-directed PD for certificated staff


Operational Technology: $9,377,600

Computer Hardware: $207,100

  • Machines for office professionals, custodians, food service, transportation, and Knox staff

  • Transition from four-year to five-year replacement cycle

Network Infrastructure: $2,300,000

  • Replacement of switches, servers, wireless access points, and UPS systems

  • Hotspots provided to students and families in need

Safety Systems: $3,100,000

  • Replacement of 520 elementary school cameras

  • Upgrades to aging access control equipment

  • Transportation radio system and student safety tracking system

Training: $28,000

  • Training funds for Technology Teamsters per the collective bargaining agreement

Phone System: $1,722,500

  • Maximum budget approved for a future committee to determine system scope

  • Will include handsets, voicemail, and other essential features

  • Current system: 1,250 handsets with 3,300 extensions

Dark Fiber: $2,000,000

  • Current WAN contract expires in 2029

  • Provides all high-speed fiber connections between district facilities

  • FCC E-Rate eligible; must be rebid and awarded in 2028

Point of Sales System: $20,000

  • Replacement of portable POS systems in schools

  • Five-year replacement cycle


Facility Improvement: $6,300,000

Facility Safety: $2,000,000

  • Districtwide security upgrades for interior and exterior doors

  • Vape sensors for comprehensive high schools

Olympia High School PAC Infrastructure Modernization: $200,000

  • Phase two: replacement of sound and lighting systems

HVAC Panels: $1,050,000

  • Replacement of critical aging software, hardware, and equipment

  • Address urgent needs only at limited sites

  • Updates will improve energy efficiency

Ingersoll Stadium: $1,050,000

  • Replacement of turf field (currently two years past recommended usable life)

  • Replacement of stadium lights for energy efficiency and reduced light bleed

Safe Walking and Biking Routes to School: $2,000,000

  • Partnership with the City of Olympia to improve safe routes

  • Reduces transportation costs to the district

  • The 2022-2026 tech/safety levy is funding the upgrade of crosswalks, high-visibility paint, and traffic calming measures. Similar traffic calming projects will be explored with the city


Technology Systems and Support: $27,150,107

Software Systems: $10,985,000

  • Digital subscriptions and software for all departments

  • Supports instructional systems and technology infrastructure

Instructional Support Staff $3,884,207

  • Assistive/adaptive personnel, technology TOSAs, secondary teacher librarians

Operational Support Staff: $12,280,972

  • Technology operations, accessibility specialist, administration, partial student information systems
