Superintendent Patrick Murphy
Superintendent Patrick Murphy has led Olympia School District since July 1, 2017. He brings decades of experience in public education, including classroom teaching, school leadership and district administration.
Before joining Olympia School District, Murphy served as assistant superintendent in the Edmonds School District. He also served as executive director of secondary education in the Issaquah School District, where his leadership experience included roles as a middle school principal and middle and high school assistant principal. Earlier in his career, he served as a junior high assistant principal in Bremerton and taught junior high school social studies in the South Kitsap School District.
In addition to his district leadership, Murphy has served as an adjunct faculty member in educational leadership at Seattle University and Western Washington University, supporting the development of future school leaders.
Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Washington, a master’s degree in teaching from Whitworth University and a doctorate in education from Washington State University. He earned his principal certification from the University of Washington and superintendent certification from Washington State University.
As superintendent, Murphy works in partnership with students, families, staff, school leaders and community members to support strong schools and advance Olympia School District’s commitment to creating opportunities and shaping success for all students.
