Why Chromebooks?

Over the past several years, the district conducted proof-of-concept projects to explore the cost, functionality, benefits and challenges of using lower cost Chrome OS computers (Chromebooks) and moving student computing to an Internet-accessible system (cloud service).

With Chromebooks, each student gains instant access to the vast power of the internet anywhere they are in any of our school buildings. For the older kids who will get to take the devices home, they’ll have the same filtered and secure internet access as they have in school so long as they are within range of an accessible WiFi internet connection.

Olympia, Tumwater, and North Thurston School Districts, along with many smaller Thurston County school districts, have adopted Chromebooks for their 1:1 programs, giving students the tools of tomorrow to enhance their learning today.

School districts where 1:1 initiatives have been launched have already proven the success of the program.

Why Google Suite for Education?

The district selected Google Suite for Education (G Suite) because of the collaboration features of all of the apps – Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Calendar, and Gmail – and its ability to work on a wide range of computing devices.
