Attention Parents/Guardians of Former Students, & Eligible (Adult) former Students:
Special Education records which have been collected by the Olympia School District 111 related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of Special Education services in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of six years after Special Educational services have ended. Special Education services end when: the student is no longer eligible for services, the student graduates with a diploma (or turns 21), the student completes his or her educational program, or the student leaves the district.
This notification is to inform parents/guardians of former students, and former (Adult) students of Olympia School District’s intent to destroy the Special Education records of students who have not received Special Education services for at least six (6) years. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/legal guardian, or eligible (adult) former student notifies the school district in writing otherwise. After six years, the district is no longer required to retain the records, but they may be useful to the parent/legal guardian of the former student, or (Adult) former student in applying for Social Security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/legal guardian, or eligible (adult) student, may request a copy of the records in writing, or in person at the following address:
