Olympia Activities & Events

The Olympia area boasts many activities like hiking, sailing, or spending the afternoon at the Farmer's Market. Rich in its traditions, Olympia also hosts many events that highlight and celebrate our culture and history. 

 

• The State Capital Museum is dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of Washington.

• Farmer's Market: Promotes local agriculture and encourages small businesses to provide goods, products and services to the Olympia community.

• Hands on Children's Museum: HOCM is one of the largest youth museums in the Northwest, offering more than 55 interactive science and art education exhibits.

• Historical Museums: Tour some of Olympia's well-known museums like the Crosby, Bigelow or Henderson House Museums.

  

• Mt. Rainier: Enjoy a number of activities during the fall, winter and summer months.

• Thurston County Visitor and Convention Bureau: Learn about restaurants, hotels and other visitor information for the Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey areas.

• State Capitol Campus: Take a tour of our State Capitol building and learn about its rich culture and historical significance.

• Washington Center for the Performing Arts: The largest performing arts center in Puget Sound, the Washington Center provides a wide variety of entertainment and cultural activities for the Olympia community.

• Washington State Parks: Many Washington parks offer activities such as camping, hiking, biking, swimming and more for outdoor enthusiasts.

• Thurston Here to There: A great resource for events and activities taking place throughout Thurston County, WA.

   

Events

 

• Arts Walk: Olympia's bi-annual arts celebration showcases the quality and persity of South Sound's artistic and cultural resources.

  

• Harbor Days: Celebrating the history of Olympia and tugboat racing, Harbor Days has been an Olympian tradition for nearly 40 years.

• Lakefair: Capital Lakefair is Olympia's own four-day festival that includes a carnival, entertainment, an early evening parade, local cuisine, arts and crafts booths and a fireworks show.

• Music in the Park: Olympia's summer outdoor concert series, held most Wednesdays from 7-8pm in Sylvester Park during July and August.

• Sand in the City: Over 200 competitors, thousands of spectators, local cuisine, live entertainment, more than 40 hands-on art and science activities and 240 tons of sand make for a fun community -- benefitting the Hands On Children's Museum.
