ParentSquare

The Olympia School District uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage our parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified. Learn more about ParentSquare.

SecURLy

What is SecURLy?

  • SecURLy is our district web filtering and automated health/safety system for our student Chromebooks. SecURLy is filtering our district Chromebooks at all times, regardless of their physical location. Web filtering is required by the Federal Communications Commission for the Olympia School District to qualify for E-Rate funding.

  • SecURLy is also monitoring student web traffic, searches and other traffic for potentially self-harmful, bullying, violent or other inappropriate words and phrases.

What does SecURLy do if it detects potentially harmful words and phrases?

  • SecURLy has a human monitored alert system that, if a situation is potentially serious enough, causes them to contact the school district and/or family immediately.

  • For all lower level instances of words/phrases, alerts are provided to families through the SecURLy Parent Portal.

What can you (families) do with SecURLy?

  • See their child’s web history on their district Chromebook

  • Implement custom web filtering when not in the physical school space. Note: Please be aware that teachers rely on websites and streaming video for lessons. Additional filtering may impact what teachers assign.

  • Receive safety/health alerts from the SecURLy monitoring system.

To register for the SecURLy Parent Portal, visit the OSD SecURLy webpage found here: OSD SecURLy Parent Portal.
